| Crime and Solicitor Alert - Jan 16, 2010 |
Neighbors in Afton Oaks and West Lane Place are reporting a higher-than-usual amount of solicitors in the area, often asking for money, asking to do "odd jobs" or selling magazine "subscriptions" or taking other steps. Soliciting without a permit is illegal in the City of Houston, and many times alleged soliciting is performed as a way to case a property for burglary or theft. If you see solicitors, please call either the AO Patrol (during their duty hours) or 911 and they will be escorted out of the neighborhood, ticketed or arrested. The AO Patrol has been alerted of this heightened activity.
There have been at least two incidents of wheels being stolen off Suburbans/Tahoes over the past 45 days. If you can, please park your vehicle in a secure location overnight, and if you notice anything suspicious around a vehicle at night, call the AO Patrol or 911.
Meanwhile, in Lynn Park (neighborhood east of us, between Drexel and Weslayan just west of the Costco)..... a resident reported that she broke up a robbery-in-progress at about 10pm this week. She drove into her garage at about 10pm to find doors from the garage to the backyard and the house open and found a 35-40 year old black male with a blue sweat suit inside. After a brief encounter, he took off running down West Main towards Weslayan. Fortunately, there was no report of injury to the resident.
Residents are reminded to be fully aware of their environment and unusual events, and please do not take steps that put your safety at risk -- call "911" and the AO patrol, in that order.
